May 16-29th! Keep track of your minutes and bring in your gently used books!

The read-a-thon started on Monday and runs through April 29th! 

Participation in the read-a-thon is easy! Keep track of those minutes! Tracking sheets and information came home in Friday folders last week. On Friday, April 27, each class will have a one-hour “read-in”/PJ Day during the school day! All funds are due on Friday, May 4th (cash, checks made payable to LP PTA or MTK online payments are accepted.)

There will be extra recess for the grade with the highest participation rate and a gift card to a local bookstore to the highest fundraiser in each of the two categories, (K-2 & 3-5), so encourage your friends to read too!

The money raised will be used to fund a few Breakout EDU kits for the LP library. These kits are a great way to transform a library space into a hub for immersive learning. They help to encourage critical thinking in groups and assist in further developing teamwork, collaboration and problem solving. In addition, we are planning to purchase some Robot Mouse Activity Sets for our computer lab. These sets allow for hands-on practice with coding in an interactive way where students make a maze and then use code to help the programmable mouse find its way out.

LP Spreading Kindness...

For our service component of the read-a-thon this year, we have also chosen to fund book purchases for an under served school in Oakland. We will also be collecting gently used children’s books during this time period. There is a bin by the office for these books. We are lucky to have a nicely stocked library, but not all schools are as fortunate. All books collected will be donated to a Bay Area school in need.
