Thank you to all students and parents who have been bringing their own utensils and reusable containers for snacks and lunch! We’ve already seen a decrease of waste in the lunchroom. From May 29 through June 1, LPLC students will tally (now you understand the title of this article!) the number of reusable containers (and utensils) by class during lunchtime and the class with the highest number will get a prize! A reminder that whether your child brings their lunch or gets hot lunch, they can pack their own utensils (no knives). Pick up a set of “toddler” utensils from Target or visit garage sales or the Dollar Tree and buy mis-matched spoons & forks – be creative! Please be sure all utensils are put in a LABELED reusable pouch (such as a pencil pouch) or container. Check out REI, Diablo Foods, Whole Foods, IKEA, The Container Store for more great ideas. Instead of Ziploc bags and plastic wrap, pack your snacks and lunches in LABELED reusable containers or foil. What about drinks? Use reusable canteens and bottles instead of sending juice boxes or pouches. PAW (Panthers Against Waste) Patrol’s goal for the 2012-2013 school year is to become a Lean Mean Green Machine!
