LP Library News from Mrs. Russell

December is always a fun month for me.

Each day I dress up and pull a selection of books for students from a winter theme. Last week I was a reindeer, gingerbread girl, snowman and elf.  Yesterday I wore a Hanukkah outfit and today I am dressed as a tree.  This week I am reading new holiday books with the students.

The Nutcracker in Harlem by T.E. McMorrow.

Queen of the Hanukkah Dosas by Pamela Ehrenberg.

The 12 Days of Christmas by Greg Pizzoli.

The Little Reindeer by Nicola Killen.

A special thank you to all the library volunteers for your support in 2017! I look forward to seeing everyone in 2018!

Enjoy the winter break and take some time to read!

Stop in the library and check out the new books!

Information About CYRM

The California Young Reader Medal (CYRM) program encourages recreational reading of popular literature among the young people of our state. Since its inception in 1974, millions of California children have nominated, read, and voted for the winners of the California Young Reader Medal.

CYRM is supported by the California Reading Association, the California Association of Teachers of English, California Library Association, and the California School Library Association.

Young people recommend the titles of their favorite books for nomination, or teachers and librarians note repeatedly read or requested titles, and these are submitted to the California Young Reader Medal Committee. Members of the committee read the suggested books, discuss their merits and appeal to children, and then decide upon a well-balanced list of nominees.

To be considered for nomination, a book must be an original work of fiction published within the last four years by a living author. Recommendations for nomination are due each year by April 1 for consideration as a nominee the following year. It is a two-year cycle from the time of nomination by students to the presentation of the California Young Reader medal to the winning authors and illustrators.

OVERDUE BOOKS

There are no fines for overdue books; however, students must return overdue items before new items may be checked out. Students who have overdue books are able to read books in the library, but are unable to take them home. If a book is lost or damaged it is the responsibility of the student to replace the book.

MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the Moraga School District School library program is to support students in becoming independent and effective users of all variety of information; to support teachers and the common core standards through collaboration; and to nurture a lifelong love of reading and learning.
