Moraga Community Faire & Car Show May 9
The Moraga Community Faire & Car Show will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 9 at the town’s Rheem Valley Shopping Center - offering a wonderful opportunity for a “family fun day” on the day before Mother’s Day. Children will enjoy some hands-on crafts like potting a small plant for their mom and will be delighted to discover the climbing wall, bounce house and fun carnival games. Grab a quick lunch at the food trucks, which will be offering 100% grass beef sliders, BBQ, smoothies and ice cream. See some cool classic cars and then visit the artist alley to find mother’s days gifts or get a pet portrait done on the spot. Anyone who rides the county connection bus to the Faire will be eligible for a $50 local gift certificate –so take your bus transit reward voucher to the County Connection bus/booth. Attendees may also win prizes by completing an Explorer Passport. All the activities are free. For more information visit www.moragachamber.org/faire.
"Walk and Roll" To School
The Race is on to see which class can have the most students who Walk and Roll to School. Next Wednesday is the final day of our contest - walk or bike to school and your class can win! Live too far away? Then drive and park a ¼ mile away (perhaps at the intersection of Camino Ricardo and Moraga Way) and walk the rest of the way. Construction has started on Camino Ricardo, so you may want to accompany your child or choose an alternate route. The winning class will get special recognition - the Golden Sneaker Award, and a book donated to the LP library in their name. So lace up those shoes, strap on those helmets and let’s see how many cars we can leave at home!
Our Student Council's chilly fundraiser continues each Friday at lunchtime. 1st through 5th grade students can purchase a frozen treat for $2 (exact change only; no pennies, nickels or dimes!) The students will be required to eat lunch before purchasing a treat. We have three choices (subject to change): Orange Push Ups, Dreyer's Fruit Bar in Savage Strawberry or a Skinny Cow Fudge Bar (all meet school guidelines for low sugar and fat content). Friday Freeze will be cancelled if raining. So enjoy a frosty treat and support the LP Student Council!
The Moraga School District has partnered with the Contra Costa County of Education in an effort to boost student attendance by addressing chronic absences. Attendance matters as early as kindergarten. Studies show children who miss too many days in kindergarten and first grade can struggle academically in later years. Students can also suffer academically if they miss 10% of school days. This can be just one day every two weeks and can happen before you know it. Good attendance will help children do well in elementary school and beyond. “Attend today, achieve for a lifetime!”

Moraga Education Foundation
Every LP Student, Every Day
Thanks to the success of last year's campaign and the generosity of our fabulous MEF donors, the Moraga School District will receive $1,500,000 in funding from MEF for personnel and programs this school year. Every LP student benefits every day from MEF funding.
This year, MEF will pay for the following at LP: Librarian, Computer Teacher, the new K-8 Writing Program, Reading Tutors, Music Teachers, Art Teachers, PE Teachers, Teachers' Aides, Curriculum Instruction Specialists (in Math and ELA), and Kids' Connection. This wouldn't happen without the support of all our LP families.
Please donate, pledge or set up your payment plan today! www.moragaeducation.org

Our students are continuing to use "Tools of the Heart" to help work through conflicts.
These two “tools” to help us use our powerful voices:
The “I” Message
The “I” Message is used when you need or want to say something to someone and you don’t know how to say it. It could be used when a friend hurt your feelings or when you’re feeling angry or sad. An “I” Message is used when you want the other person to really hear you.
The Clean Up
The “Clean Up” is used when you need or want to apologize to someone and you don’t know what to say. It could be when you hurt someone’s feelings or when you did something you knew you weren’t supposed to do. We all make mistakes and messes; this tool is to clean them up.
Using these tools takes some practice. At home make sure to practice the “I” Message and the “Clean Up” during meals, with brothers and sisters or whenever the need arises.
