Every School Day Counts!

Attend Today, Achieve for a Lifetime!

The Moraga School District has partnered with the Contra Costa County of Education in an effort to boost student attendance by addressing chronic absences.  Attendance matters as early as kindergarten.  Studies show children who miss too many days in kindergarten and first grade can struggle academically in later years.  Students can also suffer academically if they miss 10% of school days.  This can be just one day every two weeks and can happen before you know it. Good attendance will help children do well in elementary school and beyond.  “Attend today, achieve for a lifetime!”

Ways LP Parents Can Help:

  • Plan vacation during non-school days.  The MSD Calendar is posted on our website.
  • Refrain from taking your child out early on Fridays.  Teaching and learning occur every day.
  • Schedule your child’s medical and dental appointments at the end of the school day.
  • Make sure your child goes to school every day unless they are they ill.

Together we can help your child succeed in school!

Moraga Education Foundation

Every LP Student, Every Day

Thanks to the success of last year's campaign and the generosity of our fabulous MEF donors, the Moraga School District will receive $1,500,000 in funding from MEF for personnel and programs this school year.  Every LP student benefits every day from MEF funding.

This year, MEF will pay for the following at LP:  Librarian, Computer Teacher, the new K-8 Writing Program, Reading Tutors, Music Teachers, Art Teachers, PE Teachers, Teachers' Aides, Curriculum Instruction Specialists (in Math and ELA), and Kids' Connection.  This wouldn't happen without the support of all our LP families.

header_tools_of_heart_header.gif

Our students are continuing to use "Tools of the Heart" to help work through conflicts.

These two “tools” to help us use our powerful voices:

The “I” Message

  • I feel…(remember to describe 1 or 2 feelings: hurt, angry, sad)
  • When I… (what happened: When I am ignored.  When I am disrespected)
  • I need… (what do you need? I need to be included)
  • Will you… (ask for what you want:  Will you help me next time?)

The “I” Message is used when you need or want to say something to someone and you don’t know how to say it.  It could be used when a friend hurt your feelings or when you’re feeling angry or sad.  An “I” Message is used when you want the other person to really hear you.

The Clean Up

  • I know that I… (describe what you did: I know I hurt your feelings.)
  • I apologize.
  • What can I do to make it right? (let the person tell you what he/she needs)
  • Next time I will…(repeat back what the person needs if you agree)
  • Will you forgive me?

The “Clean Up” is used when you need or want to apologize to someone and you don’t know what to say.  It could be when you hurt someone’s feelings or when you did something you knew you weren’t supposed to do.  We all make mistakes and messes; this tool is to clean them up.

Using these tools takes some practice.  At home make sure to practice the “I” Message and the “Clean Up” during meals, with brothers and sisters or whenever the need arises.
